Vermont WWII Stories is a community collaboration funded in part by a grant to Vermont Public Television (VPT) from PBS and WETA, Washington, DC in conjunction with Ken Burns' series, "The War." Project goals include:
- Bring families and generations together around a common experience
- Preserve (collect and document) the stories of Vermont veterans who fought in the war and their families
- Raise awareness about how WWII touched the lives of every family on every street in every town in America
- Increase Vermont and national archives
The series is accompanied by an unprecedented national community engagement campaign to collect and preserve the stories of WWII veterans and their families. VPT and its community partners are proud to be taking part with:

- Expanded Programming on VPT to highlight stories of Vermont veterans
- "In My Own Words," – A series of spots on VPT (on-air and online) telling the stories of Vermont veterans and their families
- Vermont's only online, searchable database of WWII enlistees
- An extensive website featuring stories of Vermont veterans and their families, as well as resources and links to WWII information and archives throughout the state
